I will write for myself, to alleviate the apprehension in the depth of my soul.

Rule #27: Analysis is paralysis, think less to feel more.

It’s 31st October 2011, the official Halloween day falls on Monday! Last Friday night, initially I wanted to dress up as a rag doll but it was really disappointing that Universal Studios Halloween Horrors Night didn’t allow any costumes/masks. I already planned what make-up I should do and what to wear until I found that I couldn’t. So instead, I wore this simple Peter Pan collared dress which was orange and black (it was totally matching with the Halloween theme!) and a pair of T-strap heels. I thought if I couldn’t dress up as a ghost, i have to at least wear something cute and nice, right?;)

There were only a few attractions, so each attraction attracted very long queues. We skipped the rides because we took them before. We spent quite a lot of time queuing for other attractions anyway. I was very impressed with all of their acting and their make-ups were well done. They totally look freaking real! All the actors were unrelenting in their portrayal of the ghoulish characters. Turning the place into one huge outdoor haunted destination with 5 scare zones and 2 haunted houses was a really cool and immersive experience not to be missed!

1) Carn-Evil
This zone creeps with monstrous clowns and circus freaks... totally the kind of stuff nightmares are made of. It was not that scary because the scare actors were showing their stunts/talents and they were more for photo-taking than scaring the guests. Yeah I have got to admit there were a few other scareactors which I totally avoided such as the evil clown with the huge knife in his hands. I don’t know why, I still have phobia of evil clowns. It doesn't have to do anything with my ex.

2) Vengeance of the Matriarch
This Peranakan Mansion was like a haunted house which had about more than 20 rooms? Pretty sick! The whole journey felt like I was really in a horror movie! I did like the idea of the furniture popping out while we ventured through the darkness. It was very scary especially the girl who looked like Samara (only skinnier) playing the piano crazily. I had to walk past her and the thought of it just scared the crap out of me. There were The hanging bodies and One of the rooms had this Slug-like Human which was so huge and smelly. My boyfriend just laughed and pointed at it, “Ehhhh!! budak gemokkkkk!”. While I was squeezing his arms go to through all the scary stuffs, my boyfriend was making all sorts of jokes! This peranakan haunted house was scary but what made it scarier was the PEOPLE BEHIND ME! Ugh. 3 malay girls (or Indonesian, im not too sure.) holding each other so tightly because they were so scared that they started screaming like mad and scratching me. They even hugged my waist with a sudden jerk! Not once. Not twice. BUT A LOT OF TIMES. I was so shocked, a few times I thought it was the ghosts who touched me! Oh, one of them accidentally hugged my boyfriend. like, excuse me missy?

Imagine this kind of girl… with creepy make-up and dirty clothes… playing the piano like crazy… and you’re just like a few inches away from her! The side view of her already creep the shit out of me. I think if she turned her head to me I would just die instantly.

3) Post Apocalyptic Rage
This zone was easily the scariest of all zones at Halloween Horror Nights. The actors were really physical and dramatic in their zombie act. They would really scream right in your face. I also love those occasional scares and seeing the girls on the street screaming and running away from the roving zombies. Even though I’m not a gamer, this zone totally looked like Left4Dead.

4) The Void
The main attraction was a mad scientist’s horrible experiment. The scare actors were convincingly insane that drew persistent crowds. There was a point of time where one of the scary nurses almost tripped. It was soooooooooo hilarious but it’s good that she was still in her character. Salute! There were some bizarre costumes around there too which we’ve totally never seen before. Me and my boyfriend kept asking each other, “What is that supposed to be? What is this character?” Some were just weird and not scary at all.

5) The Pestilence
Sort of a haunted house which was outdoor instead. Totally worth the wait! The abundance of fog and crates does not help at all with navigating in this horrid space but I guess that’s the whole point right? It was very spacious so I was quite afraid I would get lost. The actors successfully spooked me till i was screaming for them to get off my way. A group of chinese guys in front of me were so mischievous! They made me laughed like crazy. Whenever the scareactors jumped out, they would just scare them back. And they even went physical, man! This fools were caught by the security guards after the whole journey for doing such things towards the actors. They are not KIDS by the way. The were like in their 20s. Which made me laughed even more. Me and my boyfriend was the second last, but halfway through the journey I realised the couple behind us weren’t there anymore, which made US the LAST. And of course… being last in the group would usually get the most scare, just like the first. Gosh, it was as good as the peranakan house! No regrets.

Sorry, no photography allowed!:(

6) 44 Sins

A sort-of disco for guests to party. They had promotions for the beer and some of the people were just dancing around. DJ duo – The Cereal Killers who turned on some wicked tunes at their club zone. It was interesting but I thought the crowd was quite lame (they were too busy taking videos and pictures of the performers) so we left that zone early.

As i was making my way out of the USS, this 'wolf' suddenly went "NADIAH!" He shouted my name as if i was supposed know who was underneath the hideous mask. It turned out he's one of my friends, Muhaimin;)

I didn’t snap many pictures of the facade because there were too many passers-by. Plus, I’m not good with night photography. I’m still an amateur. Boohoo..

So is it worth spending S$60 for Halloween Horror Nights? I would say so. Kudos to the USS producers , choreographers and scareactors! I’m definitely looking forward to next year’s Halloween Horror Nights!

I had a good rest overnight and woke up quite early for a swim with bf! We also had an impromptu breakfast buffet which cost 80 bucks but i loved it! Thanks to my boyfriend who made me feel like a princess, It totally felt like a holiday for us. But we turned into zombies on Saturday afternoon because we were so tired. We just had to drink lots of water and coffee to keep ourselves awake but still there were a few times when we randomly fell asleep. To keep ourselves busy till evening, we went to watch Footloose @ Vivo City! Sucha fun dance movie!

At night we went to other two other Halloween events which were located at Clarke Quay. I could have dressed up but my boyfriend was not as enthusiastic as me so I stick to black dress with leopard prints shirt as an outerwear because I decided to be a kitty instead of rag doll. One of the events that night was the Mysteries of Haunted Island which was soooooooooooo packed with party goers. They had rock gigs and there were a lot of clubs which had different Halloween parties theme, so tempted to enter but we gave it a miss for this year. Another one was Fright Night @ Asian Civilisations Museum. Free admission. The exhibits were fairly boring probably because it was for kids too. But it was still fun because we disturbed a lot of “ghosts” there and there were aaaalot of kids in cute costumes!!!! Irresistible. I came there because of my boyfriend’s friends and we all went for a late supper at lau pa sat. Came home at 9am on Sunday and I do not wish to elaborate how zombie-fied we both were.
